Description
Wilensky's Light Lunch Diner has been an important part of the Mile End area of Montreal for many generations. So iconic is this little urban eatery that it was even featured in the 1970's Duddy Kravitz movie based on the novel by Mordecai Richler. Nothing much has changed over the years in terms of architecture and color. The interior still has the charm of the 50's and 60's. Nicely padded stools invite diners to the counter where everyone orders the famous grilled salami/baloney club roll sandwich with a big dollop of yellow mustard. A cold fountain drink and chips round out the meal. For under $10 you can enjoy this tasty part of Montreal history. Everyone is welcome to enter the colorful turquoise door and enjoy our cultural heritage.
Fairmount corner Clark where Wilensky is located is part of a very busy neighborhood. There is a dedicated bike path on Clark which has become very popular with local residents. In my painting of Wilensky's I have depicted three neighborhood kids enjoying a street hockey game while three cyclists and two pedestrians wait for the traffic light to change. Look inside the windows and you will see the warm ambiance of friends enjoying a yummy meal at Wilensky's.
