Description
This is a painting depicting a winter scene in Montreal with some boys playing street hockey in front of Baron Byng High School.
No real school yard to speak of, no football team to cheer on, not even a baseball or hockey team with cheerleaders, yet we Baron Byng students loved our school. We loved our teachers and we even loved doing homework. The 60's was a very different time, we were called "baby boomers", born a few years after the great war had ended. We had no time to waste, our parents were poor, money was scarce. My father was American and couldn't speak French and so his employment options were limited. My mom had given up her wartime job to look after me and her parents. Like most of my Baron Byng friends, we were very academic and we had goals. We had tremendous faith in our teachers who told us to study hard, get a university degree and join the workforce as soon as possible.
