Description
Sources, style, subject, substance, seasons, strokes, spots, shapes, spaces, serious versus smiles, sketching, stalling; which direction to take, what is the mood of the painting? Remember that design equals destiny. It's charming whimsy versus straight reality, subtle shading versus louder, brighter tone and color key. the artist says, " see me deciding which creative path to walk, probably the one less travelled."
My painterly advice is, " follow the bouncing brush'. The Art teacher says," If I were mentoring you, "egads", how I hate that word, I don't mentor. Mentors don't matter. Make your own mark, paint your own truth, coffee helps, load your brush, aim it at the center, aim for the sides, the rest is history, part mystery, forty percent what you know and sixty percent what you don't. Stop doing it the same way, year after year. Where is the creativity in that approach?
Attack, attach, slash, detach, detail, derail, define, blur edges and stir emotions. Paint yourself happy or sad, paint yourself mad or rad. Stop painting, start painting. I don't care what you do, what you say. I do care what I do and what I say. Let the canvas speak. Search, the brush directs, follow, the heart leads, listen, take a taxi there.
If over a lifetime, fifty years devoted to Art and you managed to paint just a few special canvases that you yourself consider to be pretty good, that you are truly proud of, then this is a hell of a bumpy ride has been worth it. OK, speech over. Let's get back to the drawing board.
