The year was 1985. The street was Queen Mary Road in Snowdon, a trendy and popular borough of Montreal. We had found a great little upstairs shop to rent with only eleven steps up with four large rooms sunny rooms in which to showcase the works of 50 Quebec artists and so was born Galerie-Atelier Toile Etoile. Long work tables doubled as framing counters by day and a classroom for painting lessons. We advertised lessons in Watercolor, Drawing, Oil and Acrylic painting in the local newspaper.
We filled our walls with very interesting paintings created by the best artists we could find through visiting trade shows, vernissages, word of mouth and the Art periodicals of the time. I can remember working seven days a week, long hours spent interviewing artists. framing, hanging work and serving customers.
