Description
Wilensky's, officially known as Wilensky's Light Lunch, is a lunch counter and soda fountain located at 34 Fairmount Avenue West in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Founded by Moe Wilensky in 1932, the restaurant was immortalized in Mordecai Richler's novel, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. Scenes at Wilensky's in the film version starring Richard Dreyfuss were also shot on location in the restaurant.Wilensky's is most famous for its Wilensky's Special: a double grilled salami and bologna sandwich with a splash of mustard on a kaiser roll, pressed flat from the grill mustard is compulsory, as a sign in the restaurant announces. Despite its historic role in Montreal's Jewish community the restaurant is not kosher, offering patrons the option of cheese on its signature grilled meat sandwich.
Soft drinks are mixed by hand, by combining soda water and a range of syrups
The restaurant was originally located in another building on Fairmount Street in the city's Mile End district. It moved to its current location in 1952 [1] and is currently run by the late founder's wife Ruth Wilensky
