Description
Yonah Shimmel Knish Bakery came to be in 1910 at 137 E Houston Street in New York City`s Lower East Side of Manhattan. It has been at the same location for over a century and what they make are knishes. What are knishes? Knishes are a small round or square doughs stuffed with mashed potato, cheese, spinach or beans and then baked or deep fried. Knishes make great snacking food. I was attracted to the building because I loved the red brick and the bright yellow sign. The For Rent sign gives it a friendly touch since if I were looking for an apartmnet I could call the number on the sign. I purposely used primary colors in their full intensity to convey a store front street scene with a strong and effective design.
