When approached by the client to paint this important commission, I accepted the task with great anticpation because I was born on this street just a few doors down. The family required a re-creation of the entire block of Laurier street as it was in the 1960's. I started by revisiting the street and discovering a trendy and upscale neighborhood with none of the mom and pop small shops of the 50's and 60's. The family was a wonderful source of information recalling all of the stores that existed on their block. The challenge for the me was to fit all the stores onto a canvas, imagine them as they would have been in the 1960's, decorate the store fronts and windows with the appropriate merchandise and populate the scene with human activity.
