Description
From Mile End to the Plateau, from Petite Patrie to the Point, from Verdun to Ville Emard and Lasalle, we are a city of little corner stores. This jam-packed little grocery store Marche Raphael occupies the ground floor of a corner brick building on the corner of Debullion and Villeneuve in Montreal. There are roomy two and three room flats on the second floor and this fabulous and necessary corner shops sell everything we could possible want or need. These older neighborhoods were built with narrow streets, low-rise brick and cement apartments, some converted today to condos are about as high rise as these boroughs allow.
Finding a parking space near these tiny corner shops can prove to to be quite challenging. Best way to get here is public transportation or by taxi if you plan on buying out the store. The produce, canned good, beers, wines, bread, deli, cheeses, magazines and more, tend to be fresh, well-stocked and priced to sell. Depending on the particular ethnicity of the store owner or manager, sometimes you can happily discover sauces, oils, condiments and spices that you cannot find elsewhere. Go in, browse and come out with four grocery bags. Don't forget to say Bonjour/Hello to the hockey kids. They always add more local color and joie de vivre to your depanneur visit.
