If you speak to folks who lived up and down these storied streets, everyone has a favorite bakery, variety store, tiny homemade food resto they remember from their school days spent enjoying this friendly wonderful |Plateau Mont Royal, Mile end Montreal neighborhood. From the 1920's, 30's and 40's when my Mom and her parents lived on Debullion, Coloniale, St. Dominique, Duluth and so many other great old streets. She shared such great stories that I am always drawn back to paint here.
I went to the same high school that my mother and her two brothers attended. I was born on Laurier not far from where this strip of buildings is located. Now these memories belong to my Darcy McGee students but they belong to me as well. I carry them for my family. I paint them so others can see from where we all started which was a much more friendly interesting neighborhoods than where many of us find ourselves in today.
Were people nicer, kinder back in the good old days? Yes...
