Artist's Description

Before the era of the high rise, the towering condos and courtyard townhouse complexes, our wise and strategic city planners and architects knew that to accommodate Montreal's growing population, they had to augment the single family cottage, the semi detached bungalow, and the four-storey apartment buildings found in the working -class areas of the city. And so was born the row-house duplex, triplex and fourplex. These structures are constructed in solid brick and stone and were built across the patrimonie that makes up the many boroughs of Montreal from Verdun, to the Plateau, PSC, Rosemont and more.

A young couple is walking home from an afternoon of shopping in what could be any of the older neighborhoods of Montreal such as Plateau Mont Royal or Verdun. They are pushing a baby carriage through the snow and the Mom is carrying parcels. They pass by a red wrought -iron staircase as they head home.
