Back in 2011, I was commissioned to paint the Van horne hockey rink as it was remembered by my client when he was a youngster. I headed over to Van Horne Avenue, camera and sketch-book in hand to record and document everything that was actually there, as I knew most of the painting would have to be recreated as an imagination collaboration piece. While in the Van Horne area, I decided to take some photos of the Yangtze Restaurant, and lucky for me that I did because shortly afterwards it was gone.
Sometimes these fortunate moments arrive and you are happy to have at least something documented on film. the famous intricate pagoda sign of previous years had been taken down. I have painted this same restaurant with that original spectacular sign many years ago but in 2011 a simple yellow sign appeared on the building. it was the perfect player backdrop for my "couple in the window booth" and the four neighborhood boys, two in Canadiens jerseys, one Leaf and one Bruin playin...
