Description
There is no perfect street corner, staircase or shop out there in real time asking you to paint it, not even in your wildest fever dream. A street is just a street, is just a street, is just a street; just like a rose is just a rose. The more you search, the more you sketch, the more you search your own sensibilities, artistic intuition and personal style take over and your creative brain speaks to you. At that special moment time seems to stand still and the particular place you find yourself may ignite your inner voice to call out.. Paint me, hey Art lady look over here. Why don't you paint me? And then you see and hear who was actually speaking to you or rather meowing in your direction.
A beautiful black cat is perfectly perched atop a yellow roof, the contrast is spectacular! Who placed that purrfect little model out there for you to discover? Then you see the window beside the little fellow. Aha, he or she climbed out the window avoiding the melting snowpile and he's high enough to feel safe to enjoy the first sunny April day. Out comes your camera or sketch pad. This is a perfect street and house to paint. Parked bicycle as part of the ambiance, a couple of neighbor hockey buddies at play round out the figures and foreground. The primary colors are also perfect there, the sunny cadmium light pale house, vermillion red door and steps and cerulean blue medium pants and jersey decor on our hockey pals bring such life to the background. Neutral warm siennas, umbers and blue, greys are needed for brick work, trees and branches to complete the duplexes. Use the white snow sparingly. the focal points have to be the cat and the kids. I really enjoyed painting this scene.
